Ristorante Roma is in Viarigi, in the heart of
the Monferrato hills, one of the most beautiful,
fascinating areas in Piemonte. The village of
Viarigi clings to the hill. The houses and the
roads simply adapt to this characteristic: steps,
small porticoes, steep hairpins, reinforcement
walls are standard in this village built well
before the automobile came into use.
The lookout tower is most certainly the symbol
of the village. In the middle ages, the locals
would burn hay on the top of the tower when an
enemy appeared on the horizon to warn the population
to take refuge within the walls and the soldier
to come to arms.
